Case Study: Knightstone Housing Association - Context System Implementation

Assignment

As an independent IT consultancy and an IBM Informix solutions partner, JADe were approached by Knightstone to undertake a system audit of their Context Informix-based housing administration database system.

Since the initial audit we have also been approached to undertake a security audit of the environment and to assist with the upgrade of the database / application server.

JADe and Knightstone are in ongoing discussion with regard to the enhancement of their systems environment.

Solution

Due to JADe's IBM Informix partnership and overall IT expertise we have been able to bring the relevant expertise to the fore in order to undertake both a an initial system audit and a subsequent security audit of Knightstone's Context Informix system.

In order to undertake these audits site visits were required and detailed discussions were held with both the IT function and the business users responsible for the operation of the housing administration system. As a result of these meetings and a thorough investigation of the physical systems environment detailed audit reports were prepared which highlighted issues with system operation, contingency & procedures and provided a set of key recommendations to resolve these issues.

Following on from the system audit assistance was provided to upgrade the hardware to a high-end HP K-series server. A series of JADe recommendations are currently being reviewed by the organisation's audit commission.

Result

The following business benefits have been realised by Knightstone as a result of JADe's consultancy:-

• An independent analysis and clear set of actions to resolve system and security issues with the current environment.
• A cost-effective approach to maintaining the current environment whilst introducing new technology (e.g., web-based interfaces).
