Case Study: Global Witness - Office Systems Support
Assignment
Global Witness was suffering from serious system issues, with constant downtime and reliability issues with server and desktop infrastructure. JADe were brought in to examine these issues and identify key areas for improvement. A number of projects where initiated to resolve this issues.
In addition, JADe were invited to provide a support agreement for the current and future IT infrastructure.
Solution
In order to resolve the system issues and provide a stable environment for ongoing support, the following activities were undertaken:-
- Undertook complete security audit to review current infrastructure, outlining recommendations and implementing all key issues identified.
- Migration of Mail Server from NT / Exchange 5.5 to Windows 2003 / Exchange 2003.
- Windows 2000 File Server upgrade to Windows 2003 for improved capacity / redundancy.
- Firewall rebuild to resolve key security issues.
- Rebuild of Laptop / Desktops for improved reliability and performance.
- Examined disaster recovery processes and implemented resilient backup model.
- Implemented server-side anti-virus and anti-spam solution using Sybari AntiGen.
- Implemented Corporate PGP Data Encryption Solution.
In addition, a Service Level Agreement (SLA) has been implemented to provide the following services:-
- Front-line / Helpdesk support via telephone, email & remote VPN access.
- Second-line off-site & on-site support
- Quarterly system healthcheck monitoring and reporting
Result
The main benefits are:-
- Improved IT infrastructure resilience and system up-time.
- External access to web-mail has been improved and setup with encrypted access for secure access, which is essential for the business operation.
- Tightened all IT systems security resulting in improving data security and redundancy.
- Servers have been upgraded at hardware and OS level providing future proofing of infrastructure for data storage and future system capacity.
